Animal Welfare Bill Sent to Governor’s Desk

Uncategorized / Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

Lawmakers sent an animal protection bill (S2464) to Governor Baker’s desk for his signature today, after the bill emerged from a House-Senate conference committee on Tuesday evening.

The bill prohibits drowning of animals and requires the Department of Fish and Game to release recommendations for “best practices related to trapping and pest control, to include alternatives to drowning.” It also eliminates a requirement that all animals involved in fighting be killed. Instead, the animals would be evaluated on an individual basis to determine if they are suitable for adoption.

Thank you to all of the animal rights advocates we heard from on this bill; your work is greatly appreciated!
