From Georgetown Wicked Local:
On Valentine’s Day, state representatives Tram Nguyen, D-Andover; Christina Minicucci; D-North Andover; Leonard Mirra, R-West Newbury; Frank Moran, D-Lawrence; and David Robertson, D-Tewksbury, and state senators Diana DiZoglio, D-Methuen, and Barry Finegold, D-Andover, along with staff, hosted over 70 students from Andover High School, Brooks School, Lawrence High School, Masconomet Regional High School, North Andover High School, Phillips Academy, and Tewksbury Memorial High School in the Grand Staircase room at the State House.
The main purpose of the event was to celebrate student activism in the region and to provide an opportunity for students to participate in civic engagement. The students went on a tour of the State House and then met with their legislators to ask them questions about issues that are important to the students. They asked about issues ranging from gun violence, mental health, school funding, LGBTQ+ rights, and lowering high school dropout rates.
These students are our future community leaders and the legislators and staff were impressed with how engaged, knowledgeable, and thoughtful the students were. We at the State House look
forward to learning about all of their wonderful accomplishments to make our communities stronger.
