Below and attached is updated forecast information from the National Weather Service concerning the continuing high heat indices and humidity.

From the National Weather Service:

Continuing today into this week …

  • Today: Heat Advisory remains in effect and has been expanded into portions of eastern MA and central RI.
  • Another hot one today with temperatures in the upper 80s to upper 90s. Heat indices between 90 and 100+ F for southern New England.  Sea breeze development will keep temperatures a tad cooler on the immediate coastline.
  • Such heat combined with humidity, will linger into Friday. Many locations will see heat indices around the upper 90s with several locations observing values at or above 100 degrees. There is the potential that more heat headlines will be issued today.
  • Impacts: In such conditions, with prolonged outdoor heat and exposure there is the risk of heat stress and heat-related illnesses, especially for those not wearing loose, light-weight clothing and/or being out in the sun for long periods of time. Additional heat safety rules are provided in the briefing.
  • A reminder – – there will be plenty of sunshine with a UV index of 9 or above. In addition to conducting heat safety, protection from sun damage is recommended.

For July 4th …

  • In addition to heat and humidity, there is the low chance of an afternoon/evening pop-up thunderstorm. Still some uncertainty on most likely locations but appears that the overall trend is down compared to a few days ago. Keep in mind that there is still a threat.
  • Thunderstorms could result in cloud to ground lightning, heavy rain and/or strong, gusty winds.
